A. It is best for children to learn new languages from an early age. Young children are capable of learning multiple languages at the same time.
A. We strongly recommend you to visit EIS if you are in Japan.
After that, please fill out the online application form. EIS will contact you after we receive the application form.
We will ask to send some required documents such as a recommendation letter and report cards from their current/former school. After we receive them, we will set up an interview date.
We usually have the student interview with teachers and the parents interview with the principal. For Primary school and Secondary school students, we usually have MAP test and WIDA screener so that we can see their current English and Math skills.
EIS will send a result by email in 1-2 weeks.
A. During the school visit, prospective families have a chance to visit their child’s age appropriate class and watch the lesson through the windows for a short time.
We can take you for a school tour any day throughout the year. Please let us know your availability through the contact form.
After the students interview, we usually set a one day trial time. Your child will spend a regular day in the class.
A. Every child will enter according to the standard age / school year regulation.
A. The maximum number of students for the Foundation class is 18 students. For other classes, the maximum number is 26 students.
A. We have an EAL support program for students in Primary school and up. If students need EAL support, it is mandatory and there is an additional fee. specialist teachers are teaching EAL in a special classroom which is designed for EAL support. Students can get one on one or small group support.
A. For Pre-K and Kinder students in ELC, we have 2 periods of Japanese lessons to introduce the Japanese culture and language to the young learners.
In Primary school, there is a Kokugo (Japanese as a native language) class and a JAL (Japanese as an additional language) for non-Japanese students for 5 periods a week (one lesson each day). We teach the same amount of Kanjies as Japanese public schools in Kokugo class. JAL students learn level appropriate Japanese in their class.
In MYP (Middle Years Program) we offer Japanese as a second language which is called as “Language Acquisition” or a main language which is called “Language Literacy”. Both lessons are 6 periods a week.
DP students can choose Japanese language if they need to take it as their University requirement.
A. Termly report cards are the common way to inform parents about their child’s progress in social, emotional, physical, and academic areas. , and discuss appropriate goals and strategies moving forward. Not only that, but teachers regularly communicate with parents through an app informing parents on regular goings on in the classroom.
At Enishi International school we use the international MAP Test. A MAP assessment measures a student’s proficiency in math, literacy, and science against grade-level standards. Based on a student’s current achievement results, MAP also predicts (with guidance from a teacher) how much growth a student should achieve over the coming year.
Students from kindergarten through grade 10 are taking the MAP test 3 times a year. We share MAP results with the parents each term.
We use WIDA Test to check new students’ English level to decide whether they need EAL (English as an Additional Language) support or not. WIDA MODEL (Measure of Developing English Language) is a suite of English language proficiency assessments for grades K-12.
A. There are parents’ morning days available in Term 1 & 2. Parents can observe regular lessons during those days.
A. We recommend you continue to communicate in whatever language you consider your mother tongue. Your child’s development as a person includes culture and heritage to help them form a secure identity. If you do not speak English at home, that is ok. We hope all our children develop to be multilingual learners. The best support you can give at home is to help them feel secure and loved. This will give them courage to try new things and ask good questions.
A. EIS has English and Japanese support for parents. Almost all documents have both English and Japanese translations. Apps such as Toddle do auto-translation so that parents can send messages in Japanese or other languages.
During the parents teachers conferences you can request for a Japanese translator. Our Japanese staff will support you with a Japanese translation if needed.
A. For ELC students, there is morning daycare from 8:00AM and afternoon daycare until 18:00. For Primary school students, we have ‘Study hall’ until 16:30.
EIS offers a wide range of after school clubs. We offer sports related clubs such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, baseball clubs; dance, drama, movie, design, singing, cooking, coding, mosaic art, book, writers room, art-craft, board games, cheer, robotics, biology mastery, running, kanji, chess, debate clubs.
Most of the clubs are free or students have to pay only material fees. We invite professional people from outside for some clubs such as soccer, basketball, and dance clubs. Students have to pay lesson fees for those clubs.
After school clubs start from 3:40 to 4:20 pm and there are options everyday for ELC, Primary and Secondary students.
A. We have a regular summer school for Early years to Primary School students every year. EIS students and students from other schools can apply for the summer school program. It is an optional program for EIS students. There are a lot of fun activities including water play, art, language and math, and a field trip every Friday. You can choose a weekly application or can participate all 4 weeks. Our summer school happens in July each year. The details will be announced on the website in Spring.
MYP students in EIS have 2 weeks of summer school. It focuses on academic improvement.
DP students also have summer school and do DP study and reviews.
We do not have Spring school and Winter school.
A. For ELC, there are one Homeroom teacher and 1-2 team teachers in Foundation. There is one Homeroom teacher and one team teacher in Preschool, Pre-K and Kinder.
For Primary school, there is one Homeroom teacher in each grade and we have a specialist teacher for each subject such as Music, PE and Japanese.
For Secondary school, we have a specialist teacher for each subject such as Music, PE, Japanese, Social study, Science, etc.
A. We currently do not have scholarships. The tuition fee for second/third child is 5% discount.
A. EIS has a PTA (Parent Teacher Association). If parents are interested, they can join the PTA.
A. There is no car parking space in the campus. Parents can drop their child off in the morning and pick them up
after school in the drive-thru area. There are some coin parking lots around EIS. EIS is about 2-3 minutes walk from NORITAKE AEON.
A. There is bicycle parking in the school. Primary school and Secondary school students can come by bicycle.
A. Please let us know your child’s birthdate. There are currently some vacancies in each class/grade, however, there are usually a few vacancies in Grade1 to Grade 4.
