Safeguarding

The safety of our students is our highest priority. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility across our whole community — and speaking up keeps every child safe.

Our Commitment

The safety of our students is our highest priority

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility across the entire Enishi community — students, staff, parents and guardians, volunteers and visitors. Together we protect every child through clear expectations, conduct and reporting procedures.

Our approach is aligned with international best practice — including the principles of the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child — and complies with Japanese law, so that every student in our care is protected and supported.

How to report a concern

If you see, hear or feel that something is not right, please report it. There is no need to be certain or to have proof — and concerns should be shared as soon as possible.

Speak to the safeguarding team

Our safeguarding team is always available to listen and support you:

In an emergency

If there is immediate danger, staff and community members should contact the local authorities.

All concerns are treated seriously, handled with care and confidentiality, and responded to in line with our safeguarding procedures. Where possible, we work in partnership with families throughout.

How we keep our community safe

Ongoing training

All staff complete certified safeguarding training, renewed every two years, alongside regular in-house workshops. We share safeguarding awareness with families through workshops and communications, and support students through age-appropriate learning within our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.

Safe recruitment

Safeguarding begins with recruitment. Everyone working with our students is carefully selected and thoroughly vetted:

  • Careful screening of applications, qualifications and employment history
  • Safeguarding-focused interviews and reference checks
  • Mandatory background and criminal-record checks
  • Structured onboarding and ongoing safeguarding training

Partnership with families

Safeguarding works best when school and home work together. We warmly encourage parents to:

  • Let us know about any concerns early
  • Communicate openly with us
  • Reinforce online safety at home
  • Support respectful relationships

Together, we create a safe learning environment for every child.
